Single: vireo – icanicanican

We have covered this Pittsburgh-based band on our blog before, and this is their latest offering from their upcoming album, “The Great Golden Gloom,” which will be released in mid-November. The band also shared a story behind the song, so I will share it in full as it nicely explains the song:

“icanicanican started as a simple banjo loop. Our drummer, Anthony, and I stayed up all night adding different layers to the loop – multiple guitars, bells, floor tom, a pie plate mic’d through a distorted amp, paper tearing, scribbling. From that base, we sculpted a song. Suzanne added flute and vocoder vox to tie it all together. icanicanican is about trying to come to terms with one’s capabilities. It starts with a false reassurance “I can I can I can” and ends in a questioning “Can I Can I Can I?”

Vireo has created another beautiful indie folk pop song that will captivate you from the start. Beautifully looped melodies that will pull you in, and you will get lost in the vocals and all the little sounds the song contains. The atmosphere gradually builds until a drop, when the melody develops again into a rich and beautiful ending. It has been a while since I was able to get lost in such a unique sound and all the instruments. Especially enjoyed the banjo loop, which has been an underlying theme for the whole song.

Imagine sitting on your porch, a bird singing, a gentle fall breeze touching your skin, the last drops of sunlight peaking through the clouds, and you feel like something is ending, but also turning into something beautiful. The song in your ears, and you are thankful for moments like this when music becomes something beautiful and magical that pulls you in with your whole heart, and you will just enjoy the beauty of life.

Vireo has made another beautiful track, and I am intrigued to listen to the whole album once it is out. This one will definitely be one of my favorites.
