The latest example of this songcraft is kinya’s new single, ‘hefner’. The song follows the tension between an idealised perception of a lover, and the reality of their true nature.
‘hefner’ has been played at shows many times, but the song stayed in kinya’s journal for some time before she finally decided to record it. Feeling exposed with every performance, she says this is a truly precious song for her, adding, “I honestly could record it 5,000 times and still not feel finished – but for now I’m excited to share this iteration with you all.”
The song seems to breathe itself into life, like a creature waking from a deep sleep. Starting slowly at first, with a simple guitar strum. There’s a warmth and a tenderness to it.
