Vibrant readers of Start-Track know my affinity for jangle-pop and my opinion on the genre: The more it makes me want to spin around in a field of wildflowers in a tie-dye dress wearing rose-colored sunglasses, the better. ViVii, congratulations for releasing a song that fits the mood, ten out of a sun-drenched ten.
“Temporary” is the second single from the Swedish dream pop trio’s upcoming album (out early 2027). ViVii have been simmering in this shimmering style of music since forming late last decade, and “Temporary” shines with sensational synth pads underneath slick guitar riffs and the smooth vocal harmonizing from band members Anders Eckhorn and Emil & Caroline Jonsson. The song’s overall atmosphere oozes hope and optimism, but seems almost meditative as well, as if a sitar note loops and lingers just under the surface.
Speaking of meditation, it’s worth ruminating on the song’s lyrics, as “Temporary” examines the fleeting nature of life’s many moments, making all bad advice, bruises from previous failures, fears, and doubts null and void. Time itself has no permanence, so why not learn lessons, lick wounds just enough to clean up the mess, and press on? As ViVii sing to close out “Temporary”, time and life are precious, and they “don’t wanna waste it no more.”
If lying flat on my back in a meadow while listening to this song is wrong, then I don’t want to be right. Take a listen to ViVii’s “Temporary” below and do something that makes you feel happy in the meantime.
