October is finally upon us and is gracing the Florida east coast with a reprieve from the scorching, sauna-like weather. That marks an official start to the spooky season, along with a change in some habits of mine, one of them being the type of music I intentionally consume.
I leave a lot of the brighter and bouncier beats from the summertime in the past, and transition to darker, slower, and more introspective tunes that bring me to a completely different world. I find that I’m the most comfortable in this place, leaning on rainy days, star-filled night skies, and cooler temperatures that (for the most part) drive away the bulk of the blood-sucking insects and no-see-ums.
In the spirit of this time, I hit the jackpot when I came across this new single from someone who had left a note. While it did release in late July of this year, the timing feels just right to hear this one. Hailing from Germany, Nick Bories is an 18-year-old with the masterful nature of an old soul. your voice still sleeps inside these walls is just over a minute long and begs to be put on repeat.
A memorable guitar melody and a simple drum beat drive this song right into my heart and soul with ease. The atmospheric vocals are just loud enough to hear, but allow for the vibes and instrumental layers to be the main event. This song reminds me of driving an old pickup truck toward the mountain top through dense fog and sprinkles of rain. It feels intimate, purposeful, and hauntingly gorgeous.
