Single: Post Hype – Now That We Know The Truth (II)

Brooklyn-based artist Chris Curtin – aka Post Hype – releases the first single from his upcoming album, intriguingly titled ‘Now That We Know Tee Truth (II)’.

Let’s get right down to business – this track has one of the best intros/outros I’ve ever heard.

Book-ending the track, it’s a world-class, deep and dirty sound that growls and wails like a wounded dragon. It feels like beautiful molten chains have been dragged up from some deep, dark place and are being wrapped around our shoulders.

A seemingly simple hook made from just a handful of notes – it conveys so much and evokes such a strong feeling to me. An otherworldly shape emerging from the fire.

After that explosive start (which is over all too soon imo), the song settles down into a comfortable groove. The lyrics are stretched and elongated – words become elastic, and it feels like time is being distorted in a slightly trippy, psychedelic way.

The drums keep a steady presence as guitars tinkle and shimmer off to the side.

There are some wonderfully enigmatic lyrics that, in just a few lines, conjure multiple pictures and hidden stories:

“I found a photograph
Left your name in ink for good
Open your eyes and let it out
She spoke to me”

It feels like the world is falling down into an immense black hole as the outro screams and crashes, distorting and twisting to an angular focus – bringing everything to a crashing halt.

It’s all over in about 2.5 minutes, and it’s absolutely fantastic.
