Released on July 11, 2025, “NICE 2 MEET U”, a single by rock, pop, and Riot Grrrl-inspired band Cherub Tree, is something I fully expect to take over the car sound systems of my friends for the summer. It’s definitely got a lot of aspects that call back to Riot Grrrl motifs and legends, but it also has one thing that not a lot of songs can achieve – the sound of a summer song for girls and queer people, the kind of song that haunts the speakers of shitty cars and takes summer adventures in a chokehold. The screams and chunky guitars that characterize this song are electric and give not just the song, but the listener, a kind of energy that’s hard to find elsewhere. Cherub Tree also gave “NICE 2 MEET U” a catchy-ness that I’m sure will force their listeners to grab onto this track. Cherub Tree has another track, “not yours, never was”, that I really like and gravitate to, and the ways in which this band is able to be versatile with their chunky guitar sounds are really telling about their songwriting ability. Also, and maybe this is just a me thing, but “NICE 2 MEET U” has some of the vibes but all of the staying power of “One Way Or Another” by Blondie. Both of these songs have that strength to their sound that is hard to beat or to forget, and I think that Cherub Tree and “NICE 2 MEET U” are going to be around, or at least remembered, for a long while.
