EP: London Missile – Glastonbury

London Missile is an experimental pop duo based in Louisville, Kentucky, formed in early 2011 by Joshua Spicer (lead vocals, 8-bit, bass) and Chris Gunter (synth, guitar, production). The duo has already released three albums, and this year they dropped ‘Glastonbury’, their fourth EP, which they describe as:

A hazy, dreamy wall of guitars and vocal harmonies with allusions to Ween, Lady Gaga, Casiokids, Cap’n Jazz, Caesars, The Go Team, My Bloody Valentine.”

When I first read their description, I was really curious to hear what it sounded like, and it did not let me down. They’ve created a unique sound by blending elements from genres that are so different yet mesh so well: the thick, dense wall of sound and the soft, ghostly vocals of My Bloody Valentine’s shoegaze, the upbeat rhythms of electric-pop, and the rawness of Midwest emo from bands like Cap’n Jazz.

My favourite track out of the five on this mini-album is ‘My Friends Call Me Van (Sometimes)’. The moment I pressed play, I was hit with big, immersive guitars, and once the screaming vocals kicked in, I got shivers down my spine immediately (I’m a sucker for screaming vocals). The other tracks follow a similar path, so it was easy for me to fall in love with their work. If you have the chance, it is absolutely worth checking these guys out! Give it a listen!
