Single: twomoonsaway – Forget

“Recommended for nighttime use” as the band puts it, is excellent advice

I love a track where singers aren’t afraid to holler out their lyrics. A little bit of grit, some good vocal effect for dynamism in the quieter sections, and you’re given a solid performance as the carrying element for twomoonsaway’s new single “forget”. To say the song is first and foremost an impressive vocal performance doesn’t mean the instrumental lags behind. I’m particularly drawn to mixes where gazy tones don’t mean everything is washed out all the time. It allows you to set your feet on the ground so you actually feel the hit when it lands on you.

Riffs on lead guitar are those bendy reverb types, where it almost seems to oscillate and detune on itself (those really entrancing ones where you’d almost feel like it’s pulling on your heartstrings). The band has an amazing grasp of when to punch emotionally and the spacing of riffs, and while that’s a given for their entire discography, “Forget” showcases growth and a very focused show of sound. It’s def my favorite from theirs so far.

If you ever wished you had caught Basement in their heyday, the band is a hell of a contender for everything about it. The homely, ethereal feel is very present in the mix, without ever sacrificing the edgier side. “Recommended for nighttime use,” as the band puts it, is excellent advice (I’d even add that doing so in a car works wonders). It’s the song to play on the way home from a house party where you no longer fit in with people you once did. (Don’t play this first thing in the morning, at least try to have a good day)
