Eilonwy’s back with a fantastic new addition in another single. For fans of modern melodramatic voices, something like Violent Vira, “Piggy” certainly gets the job done, including the full and justifiable disdain for someone who’s wronged us. I’d like to say this is a certified nighttime drive banger. It pairs well with any tunnel’s blinding fluorescent beams.
Noticeably a throwback sound, the song does a classic move, bumping the first two bars with an acoustic rendition of the main riff, before launching into higher energy with the full band. The ramp-up doesn’t make it lose the softer side of things, as the voice guides with relative calm. The entire track is composed of contrast, alternating between high and low as the sections pass. The track does show its modernity in its runtime, and makes for an express experience, akin to an emo pinkpantheress song. Fret not, because just like these songs, you’ll probably find yourself hitting replay on “piggy” more than once
There’s a presence of those pitched-up breakcore drums around some of the quieter parts, evidencing a wider palette of inspiration for this sound, residing not only as strictly straightforward rock, but drawing from other, more digital contemporaries. The entire track has wonderful mixing, consisting of more than just musical elements and leaning into howling choruses to add ambience. It’s a very encompassing experience that understands itself really well.
