Part My Bloody Valentine, part Mazzy Star, and with a sprinkling of post-punk rhythm, the new single by Birmingham/Leeds band The Foxgloves sees them dial up the noise after the slight stylistic departure of the last single.
Still dreamy, but much messier (and even more enjoyable), When You Loved Me is more shoegazey deliciousness.
The subtle, chiming lead guitar parts throughout the song skip playfully over a foundation of fuzz; pair that with the vocal interplay and the juxtaposition is just…*chefs kiss*.
As with all their songs before, every part is perfectly executed and they blend together seamlessly and complement each other with expertise.
The shimmering, glistening tones somehow envelop you, both consoling and crushing you at the same time.
It’s the sound of heartbreak and euphoria rolled into one and it’s really quite majestic. Can’t wait for more.
