Single: Wilshaw – lazy

Zapping into focus like a vision from another dimension, lazy by Wilshaw was released a few days ago and since then I’ve been looping it to try and really FEEL the song in my veins. Wilshaw is an indie band based in London, with songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Kieran Alexander at the helm.

Compared to groups like Modest Mouse and Divorce, Wilshaw melds introspection, self-deprecation, and the intoxication of indie rock together to create a truly unique sound. The vocal delivery seems almost carefree yet authentic and raw in the same breath. When layered with oh-so-catchy guitar melodies, you get the compulsion to hit repeat over and over again to feel that specific feeling incessantly.

Some lyrics I enjoyed thoroughly and related to deeply: “What a good job you did / When’s the last time you weren’t busy doing something that you hate / You used to make me feel proud / Now I shrivel when you’re around / Maybe I’m a little selfish or maybe I’m a different breed / but what the hell happened to breathing / And why’s it feel laboured to me”.

When I heard that verse and the following chorus, it snapped something in me. That snap is always a sign for me that this is an artist to pay attention to. It hasn’t let me down yet.

With another release on the horizon, I’m patiently waiting to hear more and more from Wilshaw, as this was EXACTLY the concoction of sounds I needed this week. lazy is out now on all streaming platforms and absolutely deserves your listening ear today.
