I will always go for uninhibited emo music from the Midwest, where the band members sing like they’re going through the meat grinder and the guitars blare through the speakers so loud that they might explode.
Kariah – a three-piece emo/post-hardcore group from Kansas City, MO – scratches that itch. Their new single “Jet Streams” starts with an explosion of sound as fast as the wake of a screaming F-16, and doesn’t let up over the course of its three minutes and nineteen seconds.
The band took inspiration from their favorite grunge and nu gaze acts, namedropping Superheaven as one of them. There’s a little bit of Of Mice & Men and Bullet For My Valentine in there as well. Kariah does a fantastic job of taking these elements and using them to fuel their own music, which will set off the afterburners in your head and make you want to fly at the speed of sound.
“Jet Streams” is the first single from Kariah’s upcoming second EP. The band – Qwenton Mothersbaugh on guitar and voice, Garrett Dixon on bass, and Reiden Ogden on drums – has kept quite active over the past year, performing plenty of gigs around the Kansas City area with other local acts. Follow them on Instagram to hear about new music and live shows coming up later this year.
