Single: feeling it fearing it – i hate he left you

What a great day to be a music-lover. One of my favorite artists right now released another single the other day. Whenever that happens, it’s always a great feeling. That artist is feeling it fearing it, and the single in question is i hate he left you. Based in northwest Arkansas, feeling it fearing it is the epitome of DIY: writing, mixing, and mastering all of his own music. Something that I love about this artist is their use of distortion…or rather, their ability to CONTROL the distortion in a way that blows my mind sonically.

The guitar melody that leads up to each verse is pure gold and makes me think of the B-movie “Winter’s Bone.” In that movie, we’re placed smack dab in the middle of the Ozark Mountains of rural and impoverished Missouri. The folk music in that movie is fantastic, and the guitar in this song almost reminds me of a banjo during those pre-verse bits, similar to the movie soundtrack. Now, this is not folk or country by ANY means, but the banjo-ness of the guitar riff is too loud in my head to ignore.

i hate he left you is a heart-warming yet sullen track, with lyrics like: “Empty as the day I heard your dad died” and “But I’ll try to / Be there like / He was for you and when / You’re down I’ll / Pick you up / And be your best friend”. To quote the artist’s submission, “This song is about being there for a friend whose dad took his own life and trying to provide guidance to him in the absence of his father.” I picture the singer as being this sort of older brother figure to his friend, showing him kindness and support during the times where he needs it the most.

As we all know, feeling it fearing it has killer vocals. In this track, they sound DIVINE on top of the instrumental of this track. I anticipate more releases from this artist in the very near future. I can’t express how excited I am to listen. Keep killing it!
