Single: Beatrice Baudelaire – unrecognizable

Released November 19, 2024, “unrecognizable” is the first single by Kansas City-based artist Beatrice Baudelaire. Utilizing both bass riffs and synth chords, Beatrice Baudelaire creates a track both defined by its entrancing nature and its dissonance, perfectly walking that fine line between something with harsh sounds and something that tells a unique story. Something that I think is extremely cool is how the cover art for the single comes from one of my favorite scientific studies in microimaging, “Confinement of electrons to quantum corrals on a metal surface” by M.F. Crommie, C.P. Lutz, and D.M. Eigler. The best part of this single is easily how unique it is – you aren’t going to find the exact same thing by someone else, like with some pop music or country music. The entire electronic genre is somewhat like this, and it’s very cool to see someone from my city creating something so special and unique to them. The single reminds me of my favorite books featuring cosmic horror motifs, as if the music itself alludes to something infinitely greater than both it and the artist, and I think that it’s a perfect blend of grandeur and the ability to focus on a singular point. Beatrice Baudelaire continues to be one of my favorite local artists, and I am always going to be excited whenever I hear about anything new going on with them. I think you would be, too, if you gave “unrecognizable” a listen.
