A few weeks ago I was on Twitter (I don’t call it that other name) and there was a prompt asking people what their favourite coming-of-age movies were. I listed at least ten, and recently I just watched DiDi, a movie so popular, I am convinced that we all miss the early days of YouTube and flip phones. There is just something about watching films about being young because it is something everyone has or will experience. Songs like this one, remind me of what being happy as a teenager was like. I love it and appreciate when music has that ability.
This track drips with happiness and nostalgia. The kind of soundtrack to a film about teenagers figuring life out and enjoying their time at a beach during the summer. Setter & The Teammates has a homemade sound that adds to the authenticity of their music. It adds another layer to the warmth their songs provide. There is something about the dynamic and open sound that welcomes you in even more and also rejects perfection. This single is a part of an 8 track project Early Summer Day that celebrates and is inspired by the endless summer.
Setter and the Teammates have expanded their sound beyond the acoustic feel they had in their eponymous 2022 album and have embraced wider instrumentation and increased sound dynamics. ‘Everyday Things’ has evokes a happiness and nostalgia within a listener with its layered harmonies and sun-kissed texture.
