Sounding like a combination of the jaunty, jangly, feel-good indie pop of indie darlings Los Campesinos! (who they’ve previously played with), Allo Darlin’, Belle & Sebastian, and Frankie Rose & The Outs, Fortitude Valley’s new tune – “Video (Right There With You)” – is as infectious and enjoyable as the recently released “Sunshine State”.
There’s more than a touch of The Beths here, too, with the combination of the driving rhythm section and sweeter-than-honey vocals working beautifully together. The guitars are the star of the show for us, with the rhythm player coming across like a latter-day Johnny Marr – maybe most specifically, his time spent with The Cribs? – half jangly and half crunchy. The lead guitar lines also deserve a special shout-out – we love guitar lines you can hum. And these are eminently hummable!
The new album, Part Of The Problem Baby, is set to release on August 1st and is available for pre-order now (although the sexy pink marble edition has sadly sold out already).
