Before discussing the music, try saying “Consolation Constellation” three times fast. On with the show!
“A Consolation,” a third single from the upcoming album Cost of Living, sets us in a greyscale world where waters are more still than the people who need it to live. Swinging drums, liquid Rhodes, gentle picking of metal guitar strings, and the soft croon of Molly Seaman’s soundtrack to the funeral for “Summers of Living Easy.” When listening to this, you can hear a city in decline and in tandem with the country’s own decline, but the dire scene fails to stop the bright arrangements from shining through.
