Reminding us in part of some of the zeitgeisty work of internet label Circuit Web and surrounding SoundCloud-based acts, Doom Mutual blends noisy shoegaze textures with laid-back, almost laconic, vocal elements on their new single – Crushed Tin Can – to make a distinctly atypical brand of alternative rock.
The song starts out feeling like a Nirvana demo, with the chorus single coil arpeggio sound complimented by a pair of vocalists (members Daphne Browdy and Davis Gestiehr) whose voices work perfectly together.
In comes the rhythm section, and it feels like it’s building to something Deftones-esque. Eventually, in comes the explosion of sound, and we’re there. This is noise nirvana.
The future looks bright for this Nashville-based duo, who have been at it since 2021 but are still yet to release an album. Let’s hope we get one soon!
