The ‘Nightingale’ EP is the latest release from Irish artist Dawn Dwyer following her debut album FERN in 2022. This EP boasts six songs made over the last two years drawing together new ideas and a further developed style from her past projects. Her influences are found in the people in her life, poetry and the experiences that have shaped her growing up in Ireland.
This is a little blurb that was sent to me from the artist about the EP.
I enjoyed the first song so much that I have checked the whole EP and it is a beautiful ambient, dreamy lo-fi bedroom pop with a little bit of experimental touch. It is atmospheric and can take you to special places. It has been a while since I shared a music from Ireland and especially as good as this EP is.
Finally, music that is going a little bit out of standard boundaries. I love the combination of poetry and all the various little sounds and layers these songs have. A really special EP I will be revisitng and getting deeper into. I am happy this landed in my inbox and I hope you will love it as much as I do.
Just listen to these songs and enjoy how beautiful they are.
I have reached out to Dawn and asked her our 3 Qs:
What inspired you to start making music and what keeps you making music?
I believe naturally of course a love of music is what served as the catalyst but in particular I fell in love with the atmosphere created by some of my favourite artists. Voices like Bon Iver and Hozier served as a soundtrack to a lot of memories for me and I started with the intention to make songs that could impact or connect with people as effectively as they connected with me. I’d like to think my development thus far as all been in the right direction to that goal but I’m just happy to be creating and sharing for right now.
What was the most challenging thing in your music (artistic) path?
The most challenging thing for me personally has been finding my musical identity alongside my personal identity. I feel like I am very lucky to have the freedom of creative expression and to use it almost as a lens to view myself through and speak on what I often don’t have the words for. With such a symbiotic kind of creative process it can be very challenging and rewarding so just finding the balance and taking a step back like I did before the release of my latest EP has helped me greatly.
What would you dream to do if anything was possible?
A dream I always come back to is just complete freedom to pursue creative outlets without financial or information restraints. I like to take an open approach to creating for right now looking to implement different artforms like painting, animation and music to name a few into my projects. For example the first teaser I did for Nightingale featured an animated Nightingale flying through the scenes an although basic I was so excited to learn the process of that and implement it into the style of the project and It’s given me so many new ideas since. So if we could get greater support for the arts all over the world or at least greater access to it I feel that would be a dream of mine because no matter the use of creation whether for recreational or professional means it is a beautiful thing to believe in and discover.
