Album: Logan Pilcher – Beautiful Løser

Logan Pilcher recently released an album, “Beautiful Løser”, in February and it’s taken me a few weeks to really digest it and get my thoughts out about it in the most authentic way. I liked it so much that I needed to sit with it, make friends with it, and simmer in its existence alone for a bit longer than I anticipated.

This album opens with a track called, Maybe It’ll Be This Summer, a song full of feel-good chords accompanied by velvety and warm vocals. It sounds like acoustic sunshine, a mix of indie-folk and pop, and the unique instrumentation used is just plain old fun. I normally don’t compare artists in this way, but Logan’s talent and vibe really match a lot of the feelings I have when I listen to grammy-award-winning artist and producer, Finneas.

The first half of the album has more rock-leaning sounds and groovy guitar riffs. One of my favorite tracks, Creatures, features vulnerable and heartbreaking lyrics: “I wish I could fix your heart / I wish I could numb your pain / Kill all the monsters inside of your brain” and “Lord knows that I have tried / I am no match for the creatures of the mind”. Tons of people can relate to that feeling of helplessness, watching someone you love go through mental anguish.

Many of these tracks include little bits and bursts of psychedelic sounds, Logan really experiments with instruments and noises, and hasn’t missed the mark yet in my opinion. This album has country and folk-inspired glimpses alongside some groovy bits, further cementing in my mind that Logan has TRULY carved out a unique and intriguing sound for himself.

Some lyrics I love from the track, Dreamer Boy: “Every word you speak is a beautiful sound / I’m a dreamer boy, and you’re a dreamer’s dream / My feet come off the floor / whenever you look at me”.

Love is mentioned a few times throughout this album through different lenses and perspectives. Though they feel different, they all feel honest and super relatable.
This album is FULL of fun melodies, insightful lyrics, and a more-than-unique sound that can only be described AS Logan Pilcher. I can’t quite pin down what genre I would place “Beautiful Løser” in either, which I adore.

Listen to this album now on Bandcamp, Apple Music, Spotify, and more! I can’t wait to hear more from Logan in the future.
