Ceylon Sailor, a New York City-based indie artist, released two singles on June 25, 2024, “not where we were” and “better times”, which have both quickly become favorites of mine. The first track, “not where we were” is utterly gorgeous, striking, and fun, with soft horn sounds and an upbeat sound that is reminiscent of other DIY bands like My Own Desert Island. This song is a quintessential indie summer song, something you’d see as part of a coming-of-age movie, something that comes on over the car speakers as you leave for a road trip – “not where we were” is just that good.
The other single, “better times”, has incredible energy. Much like “not where we were”, “better times” is a song you’d see in a blockbuster coming-of-age movie, made perfectly for a road trip with your best friends. The soft horn sounds mixed with the strong acoustic guitar make for a gorgeous, captivating sound that I can’t get out of my head. Overall, both singles are absolutely wonderful and endearing, and are the perfect additions to your summer soundtrack.
