As we try to heal, it’s easy to believe that the worst parts of ourselves become who we are, which can make us forget that they haven’t always been there. London-based songwriter and producer Wilshaw explores the acknowledgement of regret that comes with longing for the past in his newest single, far too well. The track is pulsating and spacious, featuring a soaring lap steel threading the indie-rock instrumentation into lyrics that wrestle with the feeling of struggling to let go. far too well seems to be Wilshaw craving escape, claiming to want some separation, with lines like “Think I need a vacation, I think you need one too,” that confirm the familiarity of these feelings he knows ‘far too well’. This song is an act of remembering – it’s about facing the music, and, even in the face of shame, it’s about refusing to close the curtains and retreat.
