Single: The Fisherman Three – Electricity

The Fisherman Three is a band led by singer-songwriter Simon Beins, along with his longtime collaborator Raphi Gottesman, both from the New York area. They’ve released two previous albums: Rosina On Every Balcony and Time to Think About the Morning Once Again. Eventually, Gottesman moved to Oakland to get involved with the Bay Area music scene. In contrast, Beins moved to Hawaii and focused on film scoring with more than a dozen under his belt. Fast forward to the early 2020s, Beins’  unrecorded songs started to pile up. The pair realized they had enough material for an album and got to work with a team of longtime friends and very talented collaborators.

The resulting album is called Infinite Feeling. The lead single, Electricity, released on June 25th, 2025, is a beautiful piece all around. You can take your pick on what to point out, whether it be the gorgeous vocals or the nicely layered guitars, courtesy of David Tattersall. The song includes backing vocals to give it even more depth. The song overall has a folk feel to it, with those layered guitars adding a jazz/blues style into the mix. There’s a saxophone in there at one point to help the jazzy feel.

The story of Electricity is a good one, too. If you’re a writer, you wish this happened all the time. Simon had a dream that he was getting chased through the subway station, and when he looked back, it was himself, blindfolded, that was chasing him. So he turned around and led the blind version of himself to the surface of the earth. There’s probably a deeper meaning to the dream that only he will know about chasing something or feeling pressured and trying to run away from that pressure. Simon said he wanted to make this song “feel so good to listen to,” and I think he definitely succeeded. This has a cruising down the street, windows down, music cranked kind of feel to it.

The whole album Infinite Feelings is available on August 29th, 2025, via Royal Oakie Records. Based on this excellent sample of this project, I’m looking forward to hearing the rest of what these guys cooked up.
