Single: Sundozer – Liquid Heaven

Sprawling, limitless, and unrestrained.

The product of Austin, Texas-based songwriter, producer, and multi-instrumentalist Christian Luis French, Liquid Heaven, the new single from Sundozer, is a warbly, woozy fever dream.

It’s bedroom/dreampop but not as we know it. Yes, there’s the lo-fi, DIY, endearing charm that we know and love (a lá Start Track’s own Swiss Portrait), but there’s also a lucid, psychedelic quality bubbling beneath the surface – with elements of The Flaming Lips and MGMT seeping through the shroud of noise. There are moments when the recording seems to warp and wane, like a tape slowed down or stuttering  – but only briefly – adding to the dreamlike feel of the song.

Liquid Heaven feels sprawling, limitless, and unrestrained, but – somewhat inexplicably and confusingly alchemically – at only 3 minutes and 46 minutes long, it is actually pretty concise. What is this wizardry? The greatest trick the Devil ever pulled was convincing the world he didn’t exist.

A little bit reminiscent of the new Julian Wa EP (also brought to you by Start Track, as it happens – and available for free download via the good people at Get Music here), the combination of intimate and widescreen – filtered through a hazy, rose-tinted lens – makes for perfect bedfellows.
