Single: Softie – Listless

Starting my Sunday off with some slacker rock-inspired shoegaze is how EVERY weekend should end if you ask me. If anyone in the scene is making waves in the Bay Area and beyond, it has got to be Softie. Softie is a five-piece band spearheaded by none other than Nicholas Coleman, a well-known and loved DIY virtuoso.

Bay Area Music Review describes Softie as an artist who “captures the essence of a generation stuck between longing and apathy.” Listening to this track, I believe those are the perfect words to describe the feeling that this group evokes.

They released a 5-track EP called “Somersault” only a few short days ago, garnering inspiration from artists like Car Seat Headrest, Sparklehorse, Medicine, and Swervedriver. Listless is the longest track on the EP, and it just so happens to be its finale.

The first thing I fell in love with when listening to Listless is the organized distortion. Distortion can be tough to control, and Softie seems to grip it relatively easily. This song feels like a heart-wrenching fever dream of running through an endless series of hallways, desperately searching for a door to somewhere new. I envision those labyrinthian hallways as a trippy, dark version of Severance. I can’t wait to dive into the rest of this EP!

Listless and the rest of the tracks from this EP, “Somersault,” are available to stream now on all platforms! Trust me, this will be the most enjoyable fever dream you’ll ever experience. Lend Softie your listening ears and send them your support through social media and beyond.
