Based in Houston, Texas, Astralace is an indie-pop group that recently opened for the wonderful Bartees Strange at White Oak Music Hall. They are on somewhat of a roll.
Coming across a bit like a collaboration between Swedish folk heroines First Aid Kit, synth-pop Queens Au Revoir Simone, and our own indie darling Chicagoan Justin Sconza, IDK (I Don’t Wanna Have To Though) is a sprawling, infectious romp.
Having said that, there is also a distinct retro vibe here: Beach Boys-style vocal harmonies, 70s Fleetwood Mac guitar tones, and almost Thin Lizzy-esque spidery lead guitar lines.
The track flies by in what feels like half the length of its 4-minute run time and leaves you wanting more.
They’ve been releasing music since 2021, but no full-length has yet materialised. Hopefully, that changes soon.
