Chicago band Shoulderbird’s new single is a whimsical, catchy, semi-psychedelic, lo-fi indie pop song. The whispery vocal style commands your attention, and the pared-back instrumentation does the same. There’s an intimacy to the delivery that almost makes you feel like singer Meredith Nesbitt is singing directly to you. Like it’s a shared secret.
The interplay between the lead female vocal and the male backing is charming, and the use of what sounds like sports commentary compliments the baseball theme well.
In the moments where the music beefs up a bit, we’re met with crunchy guitars that add a nice dash of textural variety.
This track is taken from their forthcoming album – Neighbors – due out June 15th.
