Single: Green Gardens – Stroom

Unique and bittersweet, ‘Stroom’ is a song that packs a punch. Taken from the band’s upcoming second album, it’s a melancholic yet comforting tune that’s sure to get you right in your feels.

Straight away, the guitars gently sweep you in, with the low growl of the bass amplifying the comforting vibes of the song, like a cup of tea on a stormy night. Sounding a lot like iconic bands such as Frightened Rabbit and Mogwai, Green Gardens have crafted the perfect song for when you’re in need of a good cry.

Utilising their powerful songwriting, Stroom’ ends up being a warm light in the dark days. This is made especially clear through the poignancy of “stay as long as it takes you to breathe.” A hauntingly beautiful finishing lyric, it helps to wrap up what the song is trying to say and reminds you that there’s always space for you somewhere.

The abrupt ending is almost anti-climactic in a way, which, oddly enough, is a fitting ending to the song. It’s tantalising and leaves you desperate for the awaited release of ‘Thistlesifting’

Moving and powerful, short and straight to the point,  ‘Stroom’ perfectly demonstrates the best of Green Gardens and perfectly prepares you for the adventures that the band will take you on next.
