Single: Honey I’m Home – Soon

We’ve all chased the thing that was supposed to make us happy, only to find another one waiting behind it. “Soon” turns that endless chase into a song.

Honey I’m Home may still be new, but they’ve already opened for Goat Girl and Hotline TNT, played Girl in Red’s show in Amsterdam, and been named best band at Eurosonic 2026. Their sound blends shoegaze melancholy with a dark, VHS horror look, and “Soon” fits that world well. Sonny DiPerri, who has mixed DIIV and julie, handled the mix.

The song begins with solemn guitars for a brief moment before bursting into chaos, then pulling back again as the vocals arrive, soft and calm. It plays like a roller coaster of emotions, shifting between quiet stretches and gritty ones while keeping the energy balanced. That contrast between the gentle voice and the rough instrumental is very impressive; the vocals are clear and clean, but I think a bit more volume on them would’ve helped them slap harder against all that noise.

Lyrically, the song talks about chasing what’s out of reach; it captures the never-ending chase of happiness. It’s that haunting reality of not attaining happiness; even when you get what was supposed to make you happy, it turns out to be something else.

I’m disoriented in the dark, From living in the shadows

This feels like it comes from a dim, lonely place, with the voice sitting in the dark, almost swallowed by silence. The song carries a strong emotional weight, wrapped in a haunting, dreamlike atmosphere with the eerie nostalgia of old horror films.

“Soon” is a beautiful piece of music, and Sonny DiPerri deserves credit for a fantastic mix. Despite how gritty and chaotic the instrumentation gets, everything remains well defined, with each element given room to breathe. The sound selection is excellent, the transitions between the quieter and heavier sections feel seamless, and the vocal delivery is top-notch, taking the experience to the next level. Every detail feels carefully selected, for a song that sounds as haunting as it is captivating. Honey I’m Home have done a wonderful job with this one, and I’m looking forward to hearing more from them.
