Boston quintet Rain House are back with their first single since the release of their debut self-titled EP just over a year ago.
On Perfect Sense, lead singer Audrey Bradbury channels 90s alt/indie Goddess Hope Sandoval and blends those distinct dreamy tones with a modern, almost Frances Quinlan-esque, rootsy edge.
With this voice, she beguiles and bewitches, with her voice undulating in the chorus and delivering lines like “I’m sure you think I’m batshit crazy / but the things I say make perfect sense to me” with poise, humour and grace.
Her voice is a thing of startlingly characterful beauty, and the musical accompaniment isn’t bad either!
We’ve got harmonicas, jangly guitars, gritty, reverby lead tones, a tight rhythm section and, bizarrely, almost ska-like upstrokes towards the end – but it works. This melting pot of diverse elements amalgamates to create a rich, full of personality, and charming blend.
It’s a fantastically fun return, and hopefully, we get more of the same soon.
