Underground heroes of the London music scene, Pacer strike again with the title track of their upcoming EP ‘Unwind’. The song is a very impressive balance of subdued and slightly melancholic vocals and energetic melodies, ensuring that you don’t get sick of one or the other.
Scratchy and slightly fuzzy guitars push us in before the song explodes, creating a fun and memorable experience that stays with you long after the ending note. The band uses layers to their advantage; everything works well together, no one thing being overbearing and making the whole track feel off.
The growling bass solo is honestly one of my favourite things in the whole piece; it demands attention without being too showy and really hooks you into the song (that is, if you weren’t already), and the drums really emphasise this. Quiet at first before bursting into life.
The only gripe that I have about this song is Pacer’s vocals; for an alt-rock band, the vocals sometimes get lost in the background, meaning you can’t enjoy the song to its full extent.
Apart from that, though, ‘Unwind’ is a catchy, fantastic song from what is sure to be a stunner of an EP. Out on Halloween, it’s bound to be scarily good!
