Single: Mox – Drunk

Mox has been shared on our blog multiple times, so if you have been reading our blog in the past, you may have found previous music. This Merced, California-based musician has been making music since 2020 (started at 16), and she has been drawing inspiration from musicians like Sparklehorse or Alex G, who can be easily recognized in the sound. “Drunk” is the second single off of Mox’s album, Spirits, which will take a step forward in sonic exploration.

There is a beautiful press release about the entire album, which is set to be released in July on the San Francisco-based label Cherub Dream Records. I will not delve into it this time, so we have space to cover the entire album once it’s released. The artist shared that the song is a slow burn to a cacophonous vocal-pitched ending, with deeply personal lyrics throughout. The song is about the painful lessening of a romantic flame.

Mox is already proving to be a very significant voice on the DIY scene, and the lo-fi-alex-g style of indie rock is something I can get entirely behind. Drawing inspiration from DIY recording, taking personal experience and turning it into music is something that makes this music even more personal and easy to connect with. The two singles from the album are already proving that the album will be a masterpiece that should not go unnoticed. We see it, you hear it; we can all look forward to it.

Lyrics:

pull my cards
and go and grab the shovel in corner of the yard
and then dig a little hole
and take a little taste
take me to your very special hiding place
things won’t stay this hard

nothing you can say
to take this pain away
don’t know what you see
but i know that you’re thinking about me

hold my hand
’cause i can’t shake this feeling
that i’m sinking in the sand
and i miss you when you’re here
i miss you when you’re gone
i miss you in the shower with my makeup on
and i’m about to land

nothing you can say
to take this pain away
don’t know what you see
but i know that you’re thinking about me
yeah i know that you’re thinking about me

you’ll burn right next to me
you’ll burn right next to me
