EP: Andrew Brethour – 1995

1995 is a double single EP by Canadian musician Andrew Brethour, released in April. There isn’t much to learn about this artist, who has been releasing music since 2013. The songs bring beautifully crafted lo-fi folk slowcore that reminds me heavily of Canadian mastermind Fog Lake, with which I had the pleasure of working in the past. All lo-fi music from Canada is connecting with me on a deeper level. It is likely my personal bias or whether the talent of musicians from this country is somehow unique.

Either way, it has been a while since I listened to personal lo-fi slowcore bedroom pop that would totally blow me away. I have been listening to these two little gems on repeat to fully immerse myself in the mood of the song and the beautiful piano melody. I have been so bored by piano music recently, and this sparked my interest once again. Andrew created a masterfully crafted short EP that will evoke emotions.

I can feel the haze creeping into the deep forest, which is pierced by strong sunlight, making the haze disappear. The song “1995” is so masterfully crafted that I had to listen to it over and over again. I wished there was more to learn about the artist and hear a story about the lyrics that shaped the song.

I closed my eyes, letting the melody sink into my heart and fully transform it into emotions so that Andrew could speak to me through the lyrics and beautiful songs. I wish I were a talented musician and could craft such intricate music as this beautiful piece. I will revisit this mesmerising release and extract even more. I hope you can connect to this little gem as much as I can. Andrew, thank you for crafting such a beautiful, heart-melting piece of music.
