Single: Meagre Martin – In The Room

We previously had the pleasure of showcasing this Berlin-based indie band on our blog, and we’re excited to share that they have just released a new single from their upcoming EP, set to drop next month. The accompanying press release offers intriguing insights into the song, shedding more light on its themes and inspiration:

“In The Room” is a slow and heavy song brimming with emotional heft. It tackles the theme of toxic masculinity, encased in a sludgy, bubbling sonic tapestry. It’s a heartfelt letter to little boys who are crushed and molded into society’s standards for men. The song brings you into a world, or more poignantly a room where we confront these feelings.”

For those unfamiliar with the band, here is a short excerpt from their biography:

Meagre Martin is a Berlin based indie music project founded by African-American musician/song-writer Sarah Martin (she/her) in the summer of 2021. Sarah is originally from Boston MA, but moved to Berlin Germany in the fall of 2017. Searching for meaning in a crumbling global climate, this project was created as a means of survival, and catharsis through uncertain times.

The latest single from Meagre Martin is an intriguing fusion that seamlessly merges the ethereal qualities of shoegaze with the laid-back vibes of slacker or lo-fi rock, sprinkled with a touch of garage rock influences. This unique blend creates a sound that feels both fresh and nostalgic. At the forefront are the mesmerizing vocals, which radiate a captivating energy that draws the listener in from the very first note.

Not only does this single stand out as a potential favorite among their discography, but it also encapsulates a rich atmosphere that I found incredibly immersive. Each listen reveals new layers, demonstrating the band’s artistic depth and creativity.

This release serves as another testament to Meagre Martin’s rising prominence in the Berlin music scene, firmly establishing them as one of the most exciting bands to emerge recently. I am eagerly looking forward to the upcoming EP, as this single has left me wanting more and has deepened my appreciation for their sound.
