Do you ever find yourself in a place where you’ve exhausted the anxiety and have no choice but to surrender to your reality? I’ve been in that season of my life for a bit, and as the clock keeps ticking I find myself letting my shoulders and guard down more and more. This newest single from Lamplight plopped into my lap at the perfect time.
Clover is the lead single off of Lamplight’s latest album “Lick the Spoon, Let it Soften”, releasing on October 23rd of this year. This single is my first taste of Lamplight, and what a brilliant introduction it serves. If I had to tape a genre label on it (which I usually hate doing), indie-folk would be the best to describe the magic happening here. There’s such heavy folk roots buried in the dirt of this track, a particular favourite of mine, and Ian Hatcher-Williams vocals are like honey.
Acoustic guitar steals much of the spotlight during Clover (deservedly so), alongside meaningful and introspective lyrics that fill me with a yearning that’s hard to describe. As I play this track on repeat, I long for a slow and intentional life packed to the brim with pleasure and authentic love.
To pull from the artist himself, “It’s a song about grieving, but also one about presence – a reminder to let the moment sit on your tongue a little longer.” Clover reminds me about the importance of leaning into life and accepting it just as it is, never forgetting to be grateful for the ability to experience this blip in time.
Over the past few days, Clover has taken on a life for me, twisting and twirling into many different shapes: Sun rays breaking through the clouds, meadows of gorgeous flowers, ice cold tea, an antique rocking chair on a shaded front porch, and most of all; Peace.
