Single: Marvelle Oaks – La Plaza

Clearly heavily inspired by the sound of retro acts like Pavement, The Velvet Underground and Television, but also more modern influences like Tame Impala and The Strokes, La Plaza is a noisy indie rock song that has new wave undertones.

It’s a lo-fi treat that’s brimming with character and charm. Every component is well executed, from the assortment of guitar tones to the steady backbeat and faithful bass.

Special mention must be given to the interplay between the male and female vocals (courtesy of the couple Alex and Tess Demir), which work exceptionally well together. We’re reminded of The B-52’s Kate Pierson a bit as well as Tom Verlaine.

Their long-awaited second album “Fuzzo” was due out last Autumn. Hopefully, we get to enjoy it soon, but until then, this will do!
