I was really impressed with the way the song blends sadness and wistfulness, as a soothingly raspy rhythm guitar strums back and forth amid Branko’s tender vocals. To me, the lyrics tell the story of a connection that moves from hopeful dreaminess to anxious longing, before finally crashing down into sheer loneliness the last verse. Distorted guitars buzz darkly in the background and linger for a second in the outro before a percussive trill calls it to a close. “night comes // emptiness reclaims // the cold returns // waves crash”
I found that the song’s lyrical journey and rich composition stirred a sense of yearning in me. I felt reminded of the sadness we often feel when we leave the company of someone we care for; the title “night comes” could be the fall from the high of a crush. For fans of thoughtful slowcore and indie folk, I would recommend giving this track a listen and keeping an eye out for more releases from alone in a crowded room.
