We’ve reviewed French indie-rock band Luje a couple of times before (see here), so when I saw they had a new release, I had high expectations and couldn’t wait to dive in.
Their new single ‘Yeah’ wastes no time – it’s like falling off a cliff into fuzzy, chainsaw guitars. They cut through the track, wailing and howling like prehistoric monsters.
It feels like the speakers are about to burst as the bass throngs and bubbles under the surface, and the song pulses with pure adrenaline.
After only around 30 seconds, we’re into the chorus – with a simple, yet extremely catchy hook. The repeated cry of “ye-eh-aah” feels like it could be from a classic ’90s grunge anthem to me. Playing call and response with a crystal clear synth melody, it’s a brilliantly effective chorus.
When the fuzz and the haze briefly lift halfway through, it feels like we’ve emerged from a deep, dark forest, having to shield our eyes from the sunlight. It’s only a brief respite, though, and the frenzy continues until the final burst of distortion.
A little over 2 minutes long, ‘Yeah’ makes every second count, and there’s not an ounce of fat on its bones.
With a new album, “Among The Firs”, just around the corner, and a European tour scheduled for late 2025 and 2026, I can’t help but ask – is the future bright for Luje? YEAH!
