Single: Lowne – I Know How It Ends

“In “I Know How It Ends,” the dream-pop duo Lowne broaches the melancholic subject of today’s dystopia with ephemeral synths and plenty of swirling reverb. Among detuned melodies and layered vocals, Lowne cynically sings of blissful ignorance (“So you notice we’re disappearing? / Too unfocused, but it’s appealing”) and the sense that as much as we try, there seems to be nothing we can do (“They keep their secrets on the top shelf / Lift me higher, never reach it”). But despite its bleak subject matter, Lowne nevertheless creates a succinct, memorable dream-pop tune that’s a pleasure to get lost in.”

“Co-producers and lovers, Abby Cole (Velcro Baby Ego) and Matheus Nascimento (Slowaves) make up the duo Lowne. Individually producers, the international pair initially met over Instagram DMs in early 2020. Newly married, they currently make music together in Dallas, Texas.”

These two quotes are taken from the press release shared with us, along with this brand-new single. We have been covering Abby’s music before, so I’m always glad to receive more from her. Even though the newer music is touching on the realm of mainstream indie music, it is still beautifully crafted with a nice touch of Abby’s vocals. The summer is in full swing, even though the one in Bratislava is full of rain. Still, there’s always time for refreshing new music to ease your mind and make your workday more bearable.

If you have been a fan of dreamy indie pop, like the Men I Trust band makes, then this is a perfect fit for you. I am not sure if you have been dealing with anxiety in your life, but I have been affected by it so much, and music like this one is helping me to calm down. I can close my eyes, let the music take me on a journey, and simply follow the melody. The outside world and worries are zoned out for a bit, and my mind and soul can rest a little bit. Just try it.

I am looking forward to what this duo will bring us next, but I am really enjoying their latest offering.

Time’s not on our side
What do you want?
Press the seal on
File your report

(If you never say, how will they know?)
(If you never say, how will—)

So you notice?
We’re disappearing
It’s time I tell you that I know how it ends
Too unfocused
But it’s appealing
It’s time I tell you that I know how it ends

The place is burning
I know you know it
A drop of regret
Doesn’t solve it

(Mmm)

They keep their secrets
On the top shelf
Lift me higher
Never reach it

So you notice?
We’re disappearing
It’s time I tell you that I know how it ends
Too unfocused
But it’s appealing
It’s time I tell you that I know how it ends

(If you never say, how will they know?)
(If you never say, how will they know?)
(So you notice) It’s time I tell you that I know how it ends
(If you never say, how will they know?)
(If you never say, how will they know?)
(Too unfocused) It’s time I tell you that I know how it ends
