Strange Pilgrim has given us another song to appease us until the release of their sophomore LP, Too Bright Planet, out September 26th via Royal Oakie Records. The newest unveiled track is called “Through the Branches” and scratches that jangly, laid-back Byrdsian psych rock itch.
The song has a light, playful feel with upbeat mid-paced drumming, bright jangly guitars, vintage-sounding organs, and tightly ghost-harmonized lead vocals throughout. Warm horns on the chorus give the song extra depth and texture. A tremoloed organ solo intercedes the chorus and second verse.
In their press release, the band says this song was written during the stillness of isolation of the pandemic, and there does seem to be a melancholic underpinning happening in both the observational lyrics and the mood of the song. “Through the Branches” shows its roots in retro-tinged psych rock and creates a comforting atmosphere to combat the strange and scary time the song was penned.
Be sure to check out the other three singles previously released as you join us in anticipation of the band’s follow-up to their 2022 self-titled album.
