Single: Joyer – Spell

“Spell” by Joyer captures the interplay between tenderness and chaos, carried by its poignant lyricism. Lines like “And I know and I know it takes time / And I wish I could give you mine” showcase the duo’s ability to distill longing and self-reflection into words that feel both deeply personal and universally relatable. The heavy electric guitars are central here — not overwhelming, but given enough space to carve out the emotional weight of the track. As the second single off their upcoming album On the Other End of the Line… (out September 27 via Julia’s War), “Spell” feels like a decent preview of what’s to come.

The track truly is rock — and it is not excessively loud, but it is just the right volume to complement the laid-back vocals. However, the guitars do at times have a distorted sound that sounds misshapen or less harmonious. As the song progresses, Joyer builds toward a climax where everything peaks — the guitars, vocals, and distortion colliding in a way that feels both messy and purposeful.
