St Louis, Missouri’s Jaydee Louise’s first single is a tastefully realised atmospheric, and emotive ode. It’s an examination of two people from different walks of life, united by a common love. In this case, that common love was baseball.
Bound by the adoration of the St. Louis Cardinals – and the tradition of attending their opening games annually together (for a staggering 33 years) – singer/guitarist Brandon Michael and his late Father shared an undying love of The Cardinals, and indeed, time spent together with them. Opening Day is a look at some of the people found there as it celebrates the cultural commonality that crosses borders and bridges all manner of distances.
Musically, this is a pretty unique brand of indie-rock. There’s a touch of The Gaslight Anthem, Ryan Adams, Travis, R.E.M. and the Crates here, but only smidgens of each. It’s a sound as personal and unique as the song’s subject matter.
Fittingly, they commemorated the release by playing live from Ballpark Village, a stone’s throw from the stadium where these memories were made.
