Based out of Brooklyn, New York, Jacob Freddy is an indie rock solo artist with influences of lo-fi and pop music. His music shows off a DIY attitude, with his recordings being self-produced from his apartment. He writes, records, mixes, and masters his tracks, resulting in an uncompromised vision that is purely his own!
His new album Sports Announcer releases on May 9th. The album’s first single, titled “I Don’t Want To Know,” starts with an acoustic guitar-based instrumental with a sort of folk/acoustic lo-fi rock sound. What pulled me into the track was the bassline, which plays a more melodic instrumental role, pushing the song beyond just the rhythmic nature of the acoustic guitar chords and drums being played. The vocals feature some lovely harmony work before the song speeds up with a more traditional indie rock sound. The changes between sections of the song help to keep it engaging, with certain sounds being incorporated only later in the song, such as a handclap style percussion, which I could see the audience being encouraged to join in within a live performance of the song. Overall, the track manages to keep the listener interested and the song feels very catchy; a song that can get stuck in your head and remain memorable.
You can find the track on Bandcamp along with his debut album Songs From a Quiet Aliso Viejo Wasteland. Sports Announcer is currently available for pre-order on both digital and cassette!
