hesah is the alias of songwriter Henrik Sahlin, a musician based in Stockholm, Sweden.
He describes his album “Child of the light” as: “a compilation of songs written throughout the last 10 years of songwriter Henrik Sahlin. The album is about the horrors of living in Stockholm as a depressed 20-year-old loser.”
He is definitely winning at music, though! Imagine an old school jazzy Hollywood golden era sound, a French soundtrack to a Wes Anderson movie, some Muse and Radiohead vibes in the chord progressions and vocal melodies, even music for a David Lynch film (without the existential weirdness) or even a Japanese art film soundtrack.
If I just confused you or bored you with my film references, there are beautiful string sections in this album, washy reverbed guitars, intimate and lyrical vocals, and some lo-fi elements and sounds that add to the general atmosphere.
Besides the sound and production though, the songs themselves are good old proper melodic songwriting like The Carpenters or Jonnie Mitchel would come up with, but very connected to 90s and 00s bands.
A great collection of short stories, best enjoyed with dim lighting and the vice of your preference. “Library Bill” is my favourite track.
