Single: Gum Parker – Two Subarus

Gum Park is an electrifying garage lo-fi rock band hailing from the vibrant city of Portland, Maine. The group is made up of four talented musicians: Jeff, the energetic drummer who brings a driving rhythm to their sound; Kate, whose bass lines provide a deep, pulsating foundation; Jason, the lead guitarist who infuses the music with catchy riffs and melodic lines; and Galen, the rhythm guitarist and primary songwriter, whose creative vision shapes their unique style.

Their musical lineage boasts a rich and extensive list of DIY bands, weaving a tapestry of influences that includes notable names like Wood Burning Cat, Teenage Tom Petties, Lemon Pitch, The Outfits, and Crunchcoat, among many others.

As they prepare to unveil their much-anticipated debut album, The Brakes, set for release in April later this year on their very own label, Repeating Cloud, excitement is building among fans and new listeners alike. Galen Richmond, who not only crafts the songs but also oversees the label, has shared insights about the album’s first track:

“This one is thinking back on my first serious band, which would have been in the early 2000s. Everything was always just teetering on the edge of falling completely apart and it was the most exciting thing ever. It’s easy to be sorta rose-colored thinking back on that time so I’m making fun of myself for it while I totally indulge it”

The track features an exhilarating blend of energetic guitars and a gritty garage rock sound, creating a captivating atmosphere that immediately draws you in. The leading single from the upcoming album is particularly powerful, generating a significant buzz and anticipation for what’s to come. I’ve found myself listening to this track on repeat, fully immersing myself in the vibrant energy it exudes.

One of the standout elements of the song is Galen’s vocal performance, which delivers an almost punk-inspired style that adds a raw edge to the overall sound. It’s a refreshing take that really enhances the track’s intensity. I can easily envision how electrifying this would be in a live setting, and I would love the opportunity to experience it firsthand.

This single not only highlights the considerable talent within the group but also hints at a promising musical journey ahead. The commitment to crafting such engaging melodies and lyrical depth bodes well for the entire album, and I eagerly anticipate hearing more from these artists.
