Beginning in a style reminiscent of Desaparecidos’ energetic classic punk anthem Mañana – but with a rage that’s seemingly more introverted than externalised – OMWDOWN! (on my way down, obvs). It is a self-effacing look at the character flaws that make us who we are.
Reclusive anti-social tendencies, smoking too much, not being cool enough, and many more relatable qualms are wrapped up in a beautiful So-Cal punk/emo bow and gifted liberally to the listener throughout the course of the tune’s three minutes.
Parts of the diatribe feel rather tongue-in-cheek, but in every sarcastic barbed comment is a shred of truth, and we suspect that the author of the track (singer and rhythm guitarist Vinny Morales) clearly struggles with a thing or two from time to time. As do we all, for that is what makes us human.
OMWDOWN! is instantly catchy, memorable, and feels remarkably good, considering the levels of negative self-reflection. Bet it sounded fucking incredible at The Warped Tour recently…
