Single: Beauts – Blip

Reminiscent of recent/post-I-Am-Easy-To-Find The National, the new tune from Halifax indie-rock quintet Beauts feels nostalgic, measured, cautionary and expansive.

The instrumentation begins sparingly and builds organically over the song’s duration. It’s seemingly built around repetition, both musically and lyrically. “A blip in your life” recurs frequently throughout, and the instrumentation feels like a loop that is built up over time until it becomes a towering presence.

The lead male vocal, which reminds us of Gary Lightbody, is beautifully complemented by an additional female voice, and we’re reminded of the sadly no longer viable partnership of Low’s Alan Sparhawk and his dearly departed wife Mimi Parker.

Blip is the latest in a series of singles that set the stage for the forthcoming full-length entitled Marigolds, which was mixed by Jace Lasek of The Besnard Lakes. The album is due in October.
