The debut single from Los Angeles-based bedroom pop artist Girly is a lazy, hazy, gazey treat for the senses.
Starting with a defiant squeal of feedback before combining a Spector-esque wall of sound with cute Scandi-leaning indie-pop (à la The Concretes or Club 8), The Jesus & Mary Chain fuzz and ethereal, dreamlike production, it feels like a bit of an odyssey.
The dark, breathy vocals remind us of Lykke Li, while the music continues to borrow good bits from all sorts of great stuff. They come together in a victorious blend to make something with immense atmosphere, and that ends up incredibly unique-sounding, despite the obvious influences.
As first songs go, this is a very promising start, and we can’t wait to see what comes next.
