With a quintessentially American indie/emo/alt rock vibe – despite coming from the far North of England (Newcastle to be precise) – the sound of Earth Farm’s new single, entitled “Strung Over”, is a formidable amalgamation of stylistic influences.
Clearly avid students of the game, this sound can only come from a place of love and respect, and we understand this single represents a new direction for the band musically.
This version of their sound seems to be made up of bits of Pavement, Jimmy Eat World, The Strokes, BBQ Pope, and Seal Club. It reminds us a little bit of their geographical contemporaries, the always wonderful Fortitude Valley. It’s full of energy, conviction, and consideration, and has some great lyrical moments: “You shot me in the arm / But that’s alright / Because my brother works / On a flesh wound walk-in site”.
With several guitars that are absolutely bathed in fuzz, what’s not to love? We bet it sounds amazing live. Special shout-out to John Blank at Blank Studios, who evidently did an excellent job behind the desk.
“Strung Over” has recently received some support from the highly regarded BBC Introducing radio show, and it’s not very hard to hear why. Take a listen below.
