Philadelphian musician Sam Thacker and his revolving cast of musician pals have done it again. On this track (and for some upcoming ones too – new album due soon), he’s recruited the prolific Kevin Basko (the brains behind Rubber Band Gun), and together they’ve made a gently lilting tune that feels like early morning dew on a spring day.
Melodically, it reminds us of Albert Hammond Jr.’s work, particularly his unforgettable debut album Yours To Keep. However, stylistically, this is much more lo-fi and quirky. Wobbly and warm, Who Can Count On Careless Love? is a tender, introspective, and overtly characterful song that will have you absolutely hooked.
Also taking cues from Wilco and The Beatles, the combination of acoustic guitar, subtle piano, jangly vibes, a charming vocal performance, and a steady, sparse backbeat comes together to make something eminently hummable and sunny.
